Algorithmic Engagements 2024
Zielona Góra hosted the most prestigious and oldest programming competition in Poland – Algorithmic Engagements (Potyczki Algorytmiczne). This was already the nineteenth edition of this extraordinary event, which every year gathers world-class programmers and talented adepts of programming. The grand final took place on 25 May 2024. This was another edition, organized by the University of Warsaw, the Foundation for Information Technology Development, and Digital Technology Poland as the host of the final.
Algorithmic Engagements is a competition that brings together the best young programmers from all over the country. Their tasks require the highest algorithmic and programming skills. The finalists of this event are true masters of coding, who are, in the future, likely to work in the most renowned IT companies in the world.
This year, among the finalists we saw Tomasz Czajka (3-time winner of Algorithmic Engagements), who worked at SpaceX on the Falcon Heavy rocket project. He was also known for his famous “IT party” photo and currently co-chairs the PL/AI Committee with the Ministry of Digitalization. His presence at the finals was a guarantee of exciting competition at the highest world level.
This year, 1,280 competitors took part in the preliminaries for the Algorithmic Engagements, with the top 20 facing off in the final round on 25 May. The originator of the competition is Professor Krzysztof Diks – coach of the Polish multiple world champions in team programming. The competition has been associated with Zielona Góra from the beginning, and this year Digital Technology Poland once again hosted these brilliant algorithmicists. The contestants had extremely difficult tasks to solve, which put their skills to a real test.
After 5 hours of gruelling competition, a new champion was announced. For the first time, it was Łukasz Pluta, a final-year student of Computer Science at Wrocław University. The podium was completed by Yahor Dubovik from Huawei and Krzysztof Potępa, a PhD student from Jagiellonian University. Congratulations to all the competitors!
