Artificial Intelligence

is already everywhere
Examples of AI solutions in business
PL

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a concept we still relate to robots and the distant future. Meanwhile, AI has entered our daily lives unnoticed and faster than anyone could have expected. In many cases, we do not realise that we are dealing with solutions based on artificial intelligence at almost every step. There is no doubt that AI plays an important role among technologies that are revolutionising our everyday life and work. The world of business is increasingly reaching for solutions based on artificial intelligence.

Data management in a company is insufficient if we cannot analyse it properly and make conclusions for the future. Appropriate use of knowledge results in real benefits for the company. In the analysis and creation of business models, machine learning tools are very useful.

What is Machine Learning and how does it differ from Deep Learning?

We often come across the terms Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. These terms, however, are not always used correctly and in accordance with their meaning. The widest term is Artificial Intelligence, which refers to the ability of machines to show human abilities such as understanding, learning, planning and creativity. Machine learning (ML) is a part of artificial intelligence and concerns algorithms analysing data and learning from it, and then uses the acquired knowledge to make e.g. predictions. Another element is Deep Learning, which is a subcategory of machine learning. It uses neural networks to analyse multidimensional data. Deep Learning systems are able to “invent” rules describing data on their own. As a result, data analysis processes speed up and require less human input than before. Analyses are more accurate because advanced algorithms will detect behaviours or anomalies that are difficult to see with the human eye. Therefore, it is not surprising that artificial intelligence systems are used in various areas of business and have a wide range of possible uses.

Where can you find artificial intelligence?

  • Quality control
The inefficiency of industrial production causes huge costs. Currently, defect identification and classification tools are often not precise. By using solutions based on computer image analysis, supported by artificial intelligence, it is possible to detect product defects more effectively.
  • Predictive maintenance
Maintaining production continuity is essential to the proper business functioning. Analysis of data from the devices, by AI, can be used to predict potential risks and failure points. This allows preventive action to be taken and to minimise repair and maintenance costs.
  • Production automation
Robotisation of industry has a direct impact on speeding up production processes and reducing product manufacturing costs. The basis for the effective use of robots in production is their appropriate programming. Thanks to artificial intelligence, it is possible to develop systems supporting the work of robots. And image analysis makes it possible to identify the compliance of the product with the design and to match produced components to their plans and visualisations.
DTP has developed and patented a prototype of the Wire Label Reader device, which significantly speeds up the process of installing control cabinet wiring. Using machine learning methods and neural networks, time reductions of between 25 and 82% can be achieved. These results show how the efficiency of the installer can increase when it is combined with the latest technologies.
  • Shopping recommendations
Artificial intelligence can help consumers to make shopping decisions. AI can use data from many different sources, including customers’ past transactions, social media trends, shopping patterns, history of visited websites, facial expression analysis, etc. In this way, when using online shops, we are given product suggestions that are more likely to meet our preferences.
  • Efficient energy consumption
Artificial Intelligence based models predict future energy consumption by processing and analysing historical data in connection with present ones. The energy sector can therefore use an artificial intelligence for forecasting and optimisation. It is possible to create location-specific consumption patterns that are constantly updated based on external factors, such as the weather forecast, which leads to minimising charges for sudden peaks or unexpected needs. These solutions are successfully used in smart cities.
  • Reducing CO2 emissions during power generation and distribution
Artificial intelligence can support the fight against climate change. More efficient energy generation and distribution means less carbon emissions into the atmosphere. AI helps to increase efficiency and support low carbon electricity generation. Faster detection of all kinds of failures, leaks, etc. results in avoiding actions that have a negative impact on the environment.
  • Medical diagnostics
The tools using artificial intelligence have a great potential to increase the efficiency of the healthcare system and improve diagnostic precision. They would allow faster and better disease diagnosis, preventive actions and improved treatment methods for individual patients. Already now, artificial intelligence supports the diagnosis of breast and skin cancer. AI also enables faster and more accurate analysis of examination results, such as CT scans and electrocardiograms. In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, artificial intelligence is being used in, for example, thermal imaging at airports and to track the spread of the virus.
  • Customer service
Artificial intelligence is helping customer service specialists to respond to customers’ enquiries faster and more efficiently. This is the basis of the modern approach to customer experience. Various types of bots, voicebots and automations support us in real time around the clock, which significantly improves customer satisfaction and does not involve human resources. This ensures that service levels are kept up and service is much faster.

These are just some of the business areas where artificial intelligence is used. AI software is already a regular feature in our smartphones and modern homes. The potential to implement this type of solutions is almost everywhere. And with the right preparation and implementation, it will certainly provide real benefits to business. Companies should prepare for the digital revolution that is becoming a reality. Automation, thanks to artificial intelligence, can cause changes in production and logistics processes, as well as in the employment structure. However, this does not mean the complete elimination of the human factor, but only better cooperation between man and the machine.

At Digital Technology Poland we know how much work is required to implement solutions based on artificial intelligence. After all, we work with them every day. Our experience allows us to use these tools effectively and find appropriate areas for their implementation. We can adapt existing solutions to the needs of your industry or offer a completely innovative approach. Whether you already have implemented the AI solutions, you are at the beginning of this journey or you are just considering whether AI is for you, we can support you with our ideas and knowledge. Let’s talk about your project.
